Enrichment Contribution (voluntary)
The funding we receive from Hampshire County Council is intended to cover the BASIC costs of running a preschool; staff pay (for the minimum required staff), pensions, NI, statutory training, insurance, premises costs and utilities, a limited number of toys and books, some consumables such as cleaning materials, stationery, and some craft materials.
At Little School, we always strive to be better than basic, but we can only do this by requesting these additional contributions. Were we to rely solely on funding, these items would not be within our budget.
The Enrichment Contribution allows us to pay for:
-
Snack
-
Unrestricted arts and crafts materials
-
Additional toys and books
-
Consumables for woodworking
-
Gardening supplies and equipment
-
Eggs to hatch, caterpillars for life-cycle studies, worms for the wormery
-
Other learning resources e.g. for cultural activities
-
Adhoc sessions from Merry-Go-Round
-
Christmas gifts, graduation gifts
-
Additional staff and our apprentice
-
Non-statutory training for staff to enhance your child’s learning experience
-
Famly
-
Additional IT equipment and software licences, music licence
-
Staff uniforms
-
Re-decoration and maintenance of the setting
We believe that this additional income is vital to keep up the standards of care and provision that our children and their families are used to, and to look after our staff and foster in them an aptitude for CPD. We hope that you agree, and will choose to pay the Enrichment Contribution, or whatever you can afford.

Funded Care
Universal Funded Care for all children aged 3+
All children are eligible for up to 15 hours a week funded care from the term after they turn 3 years old.
Working Families Entitlement for children aged 3+ (and younger children from September 2025)
Some families can also extend funded care to 30 hours a week (subject to meeting eligibility criteria). More information about funded care can be found here: www.childcarechoices.gov.uk.
From September 2025, all eligible working parents of children aged nine months up to three-years-old will be able to access funding for 30 hours per week of education and care. The government has confirmed that the new offers are for working families only and that the eligibility criteria will be the same as for the existing 30-hour funding for three- and four-year-olds.
This means that parents or carers will need to earn at least the equivalent of 16 hours at the minimum or living wage but no more than £100,000. This applies to each parent in dual-parent households, though there are exceptions where one parent is in receipt of Incapacity Benefit, Severe Disablement Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, Limited Capability for Work Benefit or contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance and their partner is working.
Funding for two-year-olds in families receiving additional forms of support
15 hours of funded care is available to two-year-olds if parents/carers receive certain benefits, if the child is looked after by the local authority, has an EHC plan, receives Disability Living Allowance, or has left care under an adoption order, special guardianship order or a child arrangements order.
